FADP Guest Seminar : Overall Objectives
Demystifying FASD and FASD diagnostic methods
in order to respond effectively to this challenge within our
community.
- Introduce the scope of FASD issues and the work of Fetal Alcohol Diagnostic Program.
- Provide basic knowledge of FASD and associated brain dysfunction.
- Illustrate the link between brain domains and intervention recommendations.
- Build Demystifying FASD toolkit for community discussion.
Course Description
This is a one day seminar designed for the professional working
in the community with children and adults, such as:
- Teachers & School Counselors
- Chemical Dependency Counselors
- Personnel Care Attendants (PCAs)
- Parole Officers
- Judges

- Social Work Case Managers
- Special Education Teachers
- Child Protection Officers
- Foster Care Case Managers
- Guardian Ad Litem

The Seminar curriculum includes lecture, observation of our
diagnostic process and Team Conference, conversation, and
a Demystifying Toolkit including materials that will assist
in sharing the learning experience and information within
the community.
At the end of the seminar our community guests will be capable
of discussing the impact of FASD diagnostic methods and the
impact of alcohol exposure brain damage within our
community systems: education, judicial, social service, and
foster care. These community guests will also be able to identify
the need for a child or adult to receive further assessment
for a FASD diagnosis. Lastly, our community guests will be
able to consider new ideas for intervention planning and implementation
that will move toward maximizing the potential of the person
being evaluated.
Seminar Fee and MOFAS Scholarship
The FADP Guest Seminar, Demystifying FASD, is a one day seminar from 9am to 3:30pm, with 6 contact hours. Lunch is provided. The fee is $250 payable directly to FADP at the time of registration OR a scholarship for the seminar fee is avalibale thorugh Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrom (MOFAS) using FASD Statewide Initiative funds. A scholarship application is available by contacting MOFAS and must be accepted by MOFAS prior to registration for this seminar.
Seminar Registration:
Please print the registration form, complete and fax to FADP (218-740-6710). Because there is space for only 6 participants in each seminar we will fill on a first come first serve basis, so please provide us with a second and third choice for attending. Registration deadline is two weeks prior to the seminar. We will contact you if your 1st choice for attending is not available and will send a confirmation letter with directions and contact information when we receive your seminar payment.
